Judge Behrens was born in Buffalo, NY and grew up in a suburb named Cheektowaga. He graduated from Cleveland Hill High School in 1981.
He moved to Texas just before Thanksgiving 1984 and lived with his dad, starting studies at UTSA in January 1985 and graduating magna cum laude in 1989 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. After completing his first year of law school in the top 15% of his class at Syracuse University in 1990, he came back to Texas and began studies at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a Master’s degree in Public Affairs in 1992. He then finished law school at St. Mary’s University School of Law in San Antonio, graduating in 1994.
